Hate Campaign

Counsel Of The Enemy

Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his house, to his city. Then he put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died; and he was buried in his father’s tomb. 2 Samuel 17:23

Some of David’s worst enemies were not foreigners but those from his own household. Ahithophel was David’s personal advisor and confidant. Some scholars even postulate that he may have been Bathsheba’s grandfather, making him an in-law of David. He was the wisest military strategist in the land but by 2 Samuel 15, he had defected to Absalom’s camp to plot a coup against David.

David did three important things to overturn the counsel of Ahithophel and they provide vital lessons for your fight against the wiles of Satan.

Firstly, in every spiritual warfare, you must pray. David prayed that God would turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness (15:31). Remember Jesus says that “the gates of Hades shall not prevail against” the church (Matt. 16:18)? The city gate was the place where elders gave counsel. This means that the demonic scheme of the wicked will never prevail against the people of God. When you pray, you must come against the evil plots of the enemy.

Secondly, in spiritual warfare, you must move in spiritual intelligence. David had his own secret services through Zadok, the high priest Abiathar and his two sons. They would bring secret information about the city and messages from God to David. In the new covenant, your secret service agent is the Holy Spirit. He will give you special “intelligence briefings” through words of wisdom, knowledge and prophecy. The more you learn to move by the leading of the Holy Spirit, the more you will win in your fight against your enemy.

Thirdly, in spiritual warfare, you must always have hope. When you become hopeless, the fight is over. David was very positive and full of faith. He always believed that in the end, God would turn everything around for his good (2 Sam. 16:12,14). David kept on trusting in the Lord. A more contemporary word for “hope” is “vision and dream.” Hold on to your vision and dream. If it is birthed by the Spirit, it will surely come to pass. Miraculously, Ahithophel’s advice was rejected by Absalom through a working of the Lord (17:14). Disgraced, Ahithophel returned home to Giloh, put his house in order, and hanged himself (17:23).

There was a report about a hate conference to be held on the Gold Coast. It is possibly being organised by a satanist group. No details were given as to the date, time or venue. It's just the first stage of advertising.

My prayer is that this event will not take place. That Satan will not succeed in his plans to destroy this community. No mention was made as to what exactly they will be campaigning against but I won't be surprised if their hatred is directed at Christians.

Christians are completely fallible. We're human too. And there have been way too many mistakes made so people are confused as to what we're really about. They take our errors to be reflections of who God is but that's not the truth. Many have committed terrible acts in the name of God and that grieves me. I cannot make up for that but one day I might be paying for their mistakes.

There were times in the Bible where God threw the enemy camp in confusion and thwarted their plans. I'm asking that no one will ever find the means or gain approval to hold such an event. But more than that, I pray each one involved in planning this particular conference will encounter God before anything can be set into motion.

In one encounter, God touched the heart of the ex lead guitarist of Korn. God changed this man's life. Turned his heart around. In one encounter God has given countless individuals a new lease of life. Individuals with the power to change the lives of others in turn. Individuals like you and I. All of us have a unique sphere of influence. Our lives are intertwined with many others and we can influence those lives for the better or we can hurt those lives. We get that choice.

I am praying that the individuals involved in this hate campaign will choose not to destroy lives. God, You are in control. Nothing can exist outside of Your sovereignty. You have the power to form and tear down nations in a single breath.

What is Your vision for this city?
