We often want to know whether something is black or white. Go to God first to ask for His answer and direction for our situation. He has to be our main source. Let His light shine through to show us what is really right in His eyes. We try to label certain things black and certain things white, certain wrong and certain right. But there are things are that aren't necessarily either good or bad in themselves but they could be either good or bad for us because of where we're at in life, because of the level of our convictions. We need to be asking God where He stands on a matter and what we should do (what the highest standard is and not what we can do to just get by and miss getting reprimanded or catching the wave with everyone else).
But recognise that we can be ourselves. We don't need Him to dictate every single thing like what ice cream flavour to choose, in that we're incapable of thinking for ourselves at all. It is possible to be so obsessed with the person we follow that we don't end up being who we can be because we're so caught up with being like that other person. And then we lose ourselves totally. We deny ourselves the special journey of discovering our unique gifts, abilities, talents, passions and strengths. We need to figure out what we love, who we are and what makes us come to life and partner that with who He has made us to be. He does not make us and then ask us to be someone else. He wants us to be us and asks that we take that and see how that ties in with the potential He has given us.
