Something beautiful

Fab doesn't really dance and neither do I. We're pretty stiff. He has had his moments though but it usually involves playing a game like charades. Just this Sunday past, Belle ran a brainstorming workshop for the Shekinah production to be shown at the opening ceremony of the upcoming Oceania Convention (if you ever see me mention the OC, I mean this because I've never watched an episode of the TV series). We soaked in the presence of God as Belle played some meditative worship music and told us to get into a relaxed position and just focus on the Lord.

It was amazing how God gave each of us a vision for the production (the theme is "family") and how most of the visions were similar even though we did not communicate with one another during the time of just being in God's presence.

The strongest image that came through was of a tree. A tree that starts off in its seed form and grows steadily. When it has a strong foundation, it can stand through the different seasons, which represent stages that a family goes through in life (like laughter and new life, death and loss, emptiness and pain, unity and strength).

Belle placed us into small groups and asked each group to choose one of the props she had brought along with her. One item was a small silver tree (she hadn't shown this to us earlier). Under each branch dangled a small photo frame, like a fruit of the tree, the family tree. Fab's group chose this. Belle encouraged us to think outside the square in relation to how we could use the prop to convey a message through dance or song or a skit. Fab's group performed their creation first.

It's hard to explain in detail what they did but it started with Fab and Aaron 'playing a ball game' and Tracie and Nsofwa walking and chatting, then sitting on a white sheet (as if a picnic mat) and just enjoying each others' company, while Elise slowly danced through the scene.

At one point of the song, the four 'family members' - Fab, Aaron, Tracie and Nsofwa - came together to form a 'tree' with their arms representing the branches. As the song progressed, they slowly fell to the ground. Elise continued to dance around them and then placed a white sheet over the ground. Then the sheet was removed and those lying on the ground raised their arms slowly to signify growth. They rose to their feet together and the tree was in full form once again, swaying in the breeze.

I must ask what song they were playing as I didn't get to hear the lyrics but loved the sentimental melody. That was the first time Fab did a slow, contemporary dance, certainly one to remember. As we were driving home that night, I playfully praised his ballet dancing and he revealed that the item his group performed was his idea.

"Hmm, you're a lot more artistic than you show sometimes, Fab...so much for the engineer's mind!" But he did have a logical explanation for each section of the dance. He told me that the song was actually about different seasons and they were simply portraying this - as they gracefully fell to the ground, this represented the falling of leaves in autumn; the white sheet represented the snow of winter; the emerging of new life represented spring and them rising to form a fully grown tree demonstrated summer.

I thought the idea and execution was simply beautiful and marvelled at my husband's handiwork in the Lord. To me, he's just special. If you ever see him, you should ask him about his idea on how to make fruits appear on a tree prop for a stage centrepiece. It'll be sure to put a smile on your face, especially if you know how he thinks.
