How many women and children have stories like Mary's? I want so much for such pain to just end. To me, no child or woman deserves to go through an experience so horrific and traumatic. No man should be taken from the family he loves and tortured for no rhyme or reason.
Lord, forgive us all for our sins. We know we have all fallen short. None of us are pure and holy but we desire to be as You are and You call us to a higher standard of living. I know You see our sins as being the same. Lying, cheating on an exam, stealing, judging someone in our minds, gossiping, lashing out in anger, disobeying our parents, harbouring self centred attitudes, beating someone up, taking advantage of someone...they're all the same to You. Each thought and act is sinful and it grieves and disgusts You.
When the Israelites gave their precious jewellery to form an idol to worship, when they gathered around it saying they were going to celebrate a festival in Your honour yet turned to despicable acts, You distanced Yourself from them for fear You might destroy them in Your righteous anger. You have shown us amazing grace. Your heart is not to destroy us but to have us return to You. You want us to stand in the gap for others too.
Lord, may the prayers I have offered You to this day for the women, men and children who are suffering and for the ones who are inflicting the gross pain not be in vain. Forgive me for blaming You for allowing pain and suffering. For not seeing from Your perspective. For not trusting in Your manifold wisdom and taking on Your peace. Please bring healing and restoration. Please rescue the oppressed, those who are being preyed upon.
